California State Polytechnic University-Pomona Seal About California State Polytechnic University-Pomona

Cal Poly Pomona is a Public Polytechnic university that was established in 1938. It began as an all male institute and was founded as simply a branch or unit to the California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo. The institute initially began on the campus of the previous existing Voorhis School for Boys. By 1956, the institute relocated its campus to the piece of land donated by the W.K. Kellogg and it was in 1961 that the women entered the college as students. It was in 1972 that it transitioned from a college towards a university.

With this the university also became one of the 23 members of the California State University system. Being a polytechnic institute, the university is focused on bringing education and practical experience a reality for its students, through quality programs, and advanced faculty in place. It is based in Pomona, California.

The campus life at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona takes prides in providing a complete experience in every aspect for its students. With more than 250 student run clubs and organisations ranging from academic, special interest as well as social lead, the students are always being fine tuned into becoming active members and leaders. There is also Greek Life for the students to be part of. An interesting program at the campus is the ‘Children’s Center’; for students, faculty or staff with children, there are activities organised which provide interaction but also lead to skill development in science, math and literacy. BEAT (Bronco Events & Activities Team) introduced fun and interesting events such as Midnight Madness, Billy Bronco’s Birthday Bash, Rock the Commons and others which are traditional to the university. In addition to this, there are athletic teams, ‘Broncos’ that take part in NCAA Division II. The campus colors are Gold and Green and the mascot is ‘Billy Bronco’.

The academic programs offered include undergraduate programs with over 90 majors and more than 75 minors, and graduate programs with more than 40 Master Degree programs and a Doctorate programs. Its distinctive departments include Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture and The Collins College of Hospitality Management.
