About ArtCenter College of Design
ArtCenter grew out of the idea of Edward A. “Tink” Adams in 1930. Adams was a professional in the field of advertising and wanted to forward his knowledge and experience to the students and individuals looking for opportunities in the fields of designing and industrial design. Bringing together the experts and professionals in the field, Adams set up a school, serving as the director himself. With great leadership, the school not only survived Great Depression but also progressed as a college.
Presently, ArtCenter College of Design is a Private and Nonprofit institute based in Pasadena, California, with two different campuses in the region; Hillside Campus and the South Campus. It has developed its education on the lines of cultural and interdisciplinary making the experience of its students rich with experience in a global context.
Student life at ArtCenter is a unique combination of student leadership as well as Professional development. The education at the academy is complemented through mentoring and workshops which allow students to interact with professionals in the field on a deeper level. Dot Exchange, is its 10 week long mentoring program provided to students in their final year. Workshops are mainly focused on career building activities and exercises. Speaker series inviting top industry professionals are also held at the academy. Students are also given Internship opportunities, with the academy having a huge network of partners, nationally as well as globally. The academy also has its Dot Magazine which features creative work pitched in by students. Student activities such as Orientation Leader allows to students to work on a paid position while Open Market, providing community involvement also enables students to sell their original work in the market.
ArtCenter’s educational programs consist of undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of arts and design. It offers 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs. There is also a joint program offered in collaboration with the Drucker School of Management, the MS/MBA Program. With its educational partnerships, the academy brings professionals for classroom instructions. There are also programs and classes offered for kids, teen and adults at the campus.
