Hospitality and Culinary Degree

Outlook for this area of employment is overall good, but some fields are not expected to have as much growth as others. High end dining positions as well as high end lodging facility positions are currently in very high demand. To counter that the positions in short order or fast food are not in demand, but most  degree holders are not seeking positions in those occupations anyways. Income level for in demand positions is very good, and advancement opportunities in this industry are the best of any employment field.

Someone hoping to make a career out of a job in this industry will need to have some form of formal education. Holding a degree will set you apart from the many other applicants and make you a very desirable candidate for a position in this industry. Certification programs are available for those looking for an entry level position that may require additional experience and training to gain a full time permanent job with a company. Many people seek the training of an associates degree to enter a full time position without additional training. Leads positions and areas of employee management may require the professional to hold a bachelors degree to qualify.

Advanced degrees are available for those looking to become an expert at their profession, or work in upper levels of management. Many administrative positions in this industry require the employee to have a masters degree in related areas. Some high end restaurant and hotels require a masters to work in lead positions. A PhD is not common but may be required for someone looking to teach students of the industry at a university level.
